Abstract

An investigation of 230 pedestrian and 127 two-wheel rider traffic accidents has shown that knowledge of typical injury models of pedestrians, children as well as adults, provides criteria for use in improving the design of external features of vehicles with the aim of reducing the consequences of accidents. Measures must first be taken concerning the most aggressive vehicle element, followed by development of an optimal vehicle front geometry taking into consideration the most frequently injured body regions of road users.
