Abstract

Recently, there have been many instances of people privately and illegally removing contraceptive rings from rural women. The people responsible have spread deceptive propaganda among the masses. They make great profits by illegally removing the rings. Ignoring the danger of life, they use instruments they have made themselves or substitute implements and arbitrarily remove rings despite a lack of necessary medical knowledge and hygienic conditions. According to incomplete statistics from 6 countries and 1 district in Zhaotong Prefecture (China), there were over 9600 cases last year of illegal removal of the ring. 7 women died. Decisive action must be taken to stop these activities. Otherwise, the efforts to realize planned parenthood will be negatively affected, and it will be impossible to guarantee the health and safety of women practicing contraception. To stop these incidents of illegal removal of contraceptive rings, ideological education must be carried out, and scientific and cultural knowledge on planned parenthood must be publicized and popularized throughout the rural areas. In addition, in carrying out planned parenthood measures, the comrades of the medical and public health departments must adopt an attitude of responsiblity for the health of the masses. They must improve the quality of their service and keep errors and accidents to the minimum. In this way they will gain the trust and support of the masses, and the masses will no longer be deceived.
