Abstract

With one in two women with HIV having a history of being sexually abused before age 18, it's become apparent that this risk factor needs to be addressed by HIV clinics and physicians. Women who have been sexually abused often have multiple social-behavioral problems, including injection drug use and depression, and their ability to adhere to HIV antiretroviral therapy may be dependent on whether their history of abuse is addressed through services and psychological care.
