Abstract

Deneen Tyson, an HIV-positive Florida woman, was sentenced to 34 months in prison for biting a police officer who was arresting her for possession of crack cocaine. Tyson pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a police officer. Three weeks after the crime was committed, harsher penalties were instituted, and Tyson would have faced up to 30 years in prison, instead of a maximum of 45 months.
