Abstract

Incest is sexual intercourse between those who are too closely related especially within a nuclear family, that marriage is prohibited between them In Old English it was known as sibbleger (sibb 'kinship' +leger 'to lie') and the word incest did not appear in use until 12th century. There is documentation of incest in ancient literature and the religious books. Lot's two daughters are said to have had sexual relations with their father in the Bible Genesis, 19: 33- 35. The Holy Quran spells out the criterion for marriage and prohibition of it between certain family members; Hinduism has provisions for the avoidance of incest among its followers. Which relationships constitute incest may vary from society to society, but father-son-daughter, and mother-son-daughter sexual relations appear to be generally agreed on as being incestuous.
