Abstract

In order to improve safety and health at work through prevention integration in design, a research project is proposed. The aim of the project is to define a new concept the "Limit Conditions tolerated by Use" (LCUs) and to apply this concept, first in analysing "Limit Activities tolerated by Use" (LAUs) in a work situation (production conditions), and then to propose to integrate LCUs in the design process. This paper presents the theoretical basis of the concept, the whole frame of the project, and gives some typical examples illustrating the "Limit Conditions tolerated by Use", in the case of designing and working on printing lines. General considerations on the relationship between design, usability and safety at work are discussed, and some prospective views are given.
