Abstract

A sample of 410 workers who have been disabled in occupational accidents has been analyzed. The aims of the study were to find out: (i) To what extent can serious injuries at work be diminished by increased usage of personal safety equipment? (ii) To what extent can more efficient care limit the extent and severity of injuries at work? The results show a considerable effect of personal safety equipment. About one quarter of the injured workers could have been protected by such devices. A better preparation for rescue in the companies could also decrease the number of disabled workers.
