Abstract

This study estimated the incidence of deafness according to the length of exposure in a noisy environment on the basis of values representing loss of normal hearing acuity in normal subjects and obtained the following conclusions: 1. (1) The incidence rate of hearing disorder according to the length of exposure was predicted using the incidence of deafness according to the length of exposure. This method permitted objective comparisons of noisy workshop environments.2. (2) In a noisy environment, deafness occurred between 7 and 12 years of employment.3. (3) In a noisy environment at a level of about 90 dB(A), 65-80% of workers suffered from hearing disorders after 25 years of employment.
