Abstract

The recent development of new and increasingly reliable electronic components has made it possible to detect a person's presence in ways other than by sheer mechanical contact. A worker entering a given space can be detected by means of a suitable detector. Such systems can be utilized when constructing machine safety devices. Detection may take place with the aid of a light beam, Doppler effect radar, TV camera, electromagnetic field or thermic field.
