Abstract

Vautrin, J.P. and Dei Svaldi, D., 1986. Manipulating industrial robots in France--effects on health, safety and working conditions: results of the INRS -- CRAM survey. Journal of Occupational Accidents, 8: 1-12.The results of a French survey (INRS--CRAM) conducted in 1984 on a national level are presented. The applications of the survey results are brought into focus by first outlining the present situation of robot use in French industry and projecting it forward to the 1990s.Robot-related hazards are discussed and the questionnaire results of perception of actual and potential hazards are given, including those related to environmental conditions and electrical disruptions. Nature and implementation of safeguards are outlined. The results of this survey are consistent with studies of robotics implementation from other countries. There are positive influences on the workplace to be derived from the use of robotics and, at the same time, new and complicated risks to be evaluated and taken into account at the design phase.
