Abstract

The role of race in African-American biblical scholarship has shifted in the last 30 years. The scholars of the G.I. generation treated African presence in the Hebrew Bible as the central element in their research. The baby boom generation scholars work with the Hebrew Bible as a cultural icon for cultural criticism. It remains to see what directions Gen X research will take in the years to come.
