Abstract

Dr. Tartakow, County Health Officer in New York State, reports an outbreak involving 12 persons who drank a common beverage. The symptoms were sudden onset of nausea, abdominal pain, and prostration; 3 had cyanosis, and 4 had burning in the throat. Four additional persons who tasted the beverage also became ill. Laboratory examination revealed that the drink contained a large quantity of arsenic. The source was believed to be criminal sabotage by using fluid from a nearby drum which contained arsenic.
