Abstract

Reviews previous reports relating psychological and physical variables to males with a 47,XYY chromosome complement. No clear relationship of external genitalia, bone and joint abnormalities, dental irregularities, skin disorders, and some hormone levels with an XYY constitution has been established. Increased stature, dermatoglyphic alterations, possible neurological involvement, alterations in testicular cells, and some slight cardiac anomaly may, with properly collected data, prove to be predictable from the XYY genome. Data relevant to psychological and social functioning include diagnoses, personality and behavioral descriptions, and criminal records, age at 1st conviction, and psychometric scores on tests of personality and intelligence. No consistent personality or behavioral constellation has been successfully predicted from the XYY complement. (6 p. ref.) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
