Abstract

The purpose of this paper as to summarize the four-year activities of the counseling room for students in the faculty of social welfare, and to consider characteristics of those who have been counseled. The author of this paper analyzed the total record and the content of the counseling, so as to discuss the supporting system for students in this faculty. The students have been given various kinds of advice according to their problems. This system has been working well. The counseling room has been playing its part in the system. Two cases were reported here and the processes are considered. The following characteristics of the youth in the modern age were found. 1) They orient themselves to the community and find no problem until some difficulties make them go for counseling. 2) There are more schizoids than those of borderline personalities. 3) There are more those who have pathological problems of man-to-man human relations and need to be re-reared, having symptoms of neurosis. 4) They temporarily have psychotics anxieties in the process of counseling. 5) They have frequencies of self-mutilation, such as overdose, wrist cut, attempt of suicide, domestic violence and eating disorder. 6) They show some regression in the process of counseling while they cannot talk of their problems even to their own family.
