Abstract

The overall network reliability, defined as the probability that there exists at least one path between every pair of nodes in the network, is maximised by obtaining the optimum, or near optimum, connection of links to the network. The approach uses a heuristic procedure for obtaining an excellent approximation of the symbolic expression of network unreliability and an iterative optimisation procedure for determining the best allocation of links which results in the minimum overall unreliability.
