Abstract

3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as 'Ecstasy' (Figure 1), is usually ingested in settings where dancing is fast and prolonged. It is likely that the pharmacological effects of the drug are compounded by physical exertion, the ambient temperature and marked dehydration or over-hydration.
