Abstract |
Built in test (BIT) is incorporated into many UK and US defence equipments as an aid to first line maintenance. Experience of BIT has been that, whilst it is undoubtedly useful, its full potential has generally not, as yet, been realised. It is the author's experience that a major contributory cause for this current state of affairs is the inadequate specification of BIT. The paper develops this idea and shows, by example, how a different approach to specifying BIT might improve matters and finally discusses some other aspects of BIT which are seen to cause problems. |
