Abstract |
The effects of cobra venom and the opiates were studied on the acuity and the field of vision for white, blue, red, and green of 35 normal subjects. Morphine, codeine, heroin, dilaudid and pantopon definitely contracted or narrowed the field of vision in the following progressive order: white, blue, red, green. Cobra venom has a tendency to increase acuity of vision, and also markedly widens the field of vision for the four colors in the following order: white, blue, red, green. There is reason to believe that the stimulating action of cobra venom on vision may be due in part to an influence on the circulation of the eye and in part to a direct effect of the drug on the brain.
