Abstract

Child psychiatric consultation in the medical setting is a request from a pediatrician or other health care provider for a psychosocial account of a child's psychological or coping difficulties. Major requests from pediatricians and other allied professions for psychiatric consultation on hospitalized physically ill children and adolescents generally fall in the following broad categories: evaluation of suicidality, the differential diagnosis of somatoform symptoms and psychiatric symptoms related to hospitalization, including reactions to illness and treatment in children and the family ((1)) .Emotional and behavioral problems have been reported in 18- 20% of children who attended primary pediatric care, and more than 20 % in children with chronic illness((2)) . © 2012 The Author.
