Abstract

Child psychiatrists have claimed to represent the best interests of the child. This paper examines the evidence in support of this view. In addition, the paper examines the extent to which child psychiatrists have led the fight for the protection of the child's dignity, privacy, and personal integrity. The findings are discouraging and indicate that psychiatric intervention places the child's rights in double jeopardy. It is suggested that the child must be protected with judicial and other safeguards against psychiatric intervention.
