Abstract

Reviews the book, Coping With Minority Status: Responses to Exclusion and Inclusion by Fabrizio Butera and John M. Levine (see record 2010-05659-000). Coping With Minority Status: Responses to Exclusion and Inclusion is a compendium of essays that present theories about groups that have fallen victim to discrimination due to their minority status. The book is divided into three sections, each comprising chapters presenting information about the experiences of various minority groups, including ethnic minorities, women, and members of delinquent groups. The book also includes some discussion about the ways in which these groups utilize coping mechanisms to deal with their minority status and the discrimination they have experienced. While the text provides the reader with a general overview of the problems minorities face in general, it does not fully address the various strategies one needs to employ in order to cope with their minority status.
