Abstract

Addressing the increasing fatalities at work, including workers in the building, engineering, and construction sector, the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 came into force in April. This new legislation will make easier to convict organizations whose gross failure in management and organization results in a person's death at work. On conviction for corporate manslaughter, companies will be liable for unlimited fines as well as remedial orders, and penalties are expected to be heavy to satisfy public demand. These sectors have always been the major focus for health and safety concerns, thus the Health safety Executive (HSE) have always been eager to emphasize the risks that this kind of work involves.
