Abstract

The physical and economic impact of mental health on vulnerable communities in regards to improved people's quality of life, are discussed. The majority of people with mental disorders live in countries which command only a fraction of global mental health resources. The mental disorders, particularly substance abuse, significantly increase the risk of road accidents followed by depression and post-traumatic stress disorders. Alcohol abuse and personality disorders are often precursors to depression, followed by violence, self-harm and suicide. Good mental health is not expensive, and can be achieved with simple interventions.
