Abstract

A unique tool for driver, vehicle, and roadway evaluation studies is described. Integration of a vehicle lateral position tracking device with sophisticated instrumentation which measures driving behavior in the vehicle provides information relative to the dynamic interaction of vehicle and changing roadway. Lightness of weight, relatively low cost, portability, high sampling speed, and high resolution were design objectives met in system development. Computer software permits display of tranducer outputs over time on a graphics terminal, provides hard copy plots as well, and generates data for statistical comparisons and analysis.
