Abstract

CME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES1.Review the neuropsychological impact of child maltreatment across the life span of the victim.2.Describe the essential role played by the pediatrician in the delivery of needed care to affected children and their families.3.Outline evidence-based therapeutic interventions for children affected by abuse. Child abuse and neglect is a stubbornly persistent problem that affects patients in every pediatric practice, regardless of geography, socioeconomic status, culture, or race. In 2010, close to 700,000 children, or just less than 1% of all children in the United States, were victims of substantiated allegations of child maltreatment.1.
