Abstract

One of the most frequent head injuries resulting from cycling accidents is Acute Subdural Hematoma (ASDH). For nearly one third of the ASDH cases, the etiopathology directly relates to a bridging vein (BV) rupture. Therefore, a good description of the BV material behaviour is essential for clarifying the biomechanical characteristics of ASDH etiology following a head impact. This study focuses on describing the BV material behaviour under axial loading conditions at high strain rates. Finally, a comparison is made with published BV data at low strain rates to investigate a strain rate dependency. From the presented BV-Superior Sagittal Sinus study, it follows that no strain rate sensitivity could be observed up to 20 s-1. However, more tests at even higher strain rates need to be performed to draw a final conclusion.
