Abstract

In the field of research on the protection of occupants, a very important element is the knowledge of what happens in reality of road accidents. It is customary to represent this reality in a number of statistical curves providing, for example, the law of distribution of fatal cases depending on the severity of the collision. It is therefore of primary importance to be able to characterize the severity of the impact. In addition, this characterization must be made to the occupant and not the vehicle. Today, in the absence of coupling between vehicle and occupant unsuccessful, the characterization of this severity is based on the knowledge of the speed variation (or delta-V) experienced by the occupant.
