Abstract

A brief history of the development of anthropometric data bases is described in summary form, including folk norms and early anthropometric surveys, military anthropometric surveys, comprehensive and specialized U.S. civilian surveys, civilian surveys in other nations, and recent proposed research at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). Discussion and important references are provided for those interested readers/users who are new to the field of anthropometry.
