Abstract

This paper reviews recent research pertainig to insight in decision making tasks and suggests possible applications for the development and conduct of training. The role of judgment and decision making in training is addressed with special emphasis on decision makers' insight. After considering the meaning and measurement of insight, data from a recent study are presented suggesting that insight is contingent on task parameters. Theoretical and empirical issues which may limit the adaptability of insight to training are discussed and several questions are proposed for future research.
