Abstract

Research investigated the ability of pilots of differing experience and capability to make vehicle control decisions. Three groups of pilots and three groups of pilot trainees performed the Flight Decsion-making Assessment Task (FDAT). The FDAT is a micro-computer based, discrete-time vehicle control task. Differences in FDAT performance were found as a function of pilot capability. Results are discussed in terms of pilot capability and of decision factors involved in vehicle control.
