Abstract

The need and importance of considering robot safety issues are emphasized. Based on previous researches, major categories of robot accident causes are identified and listed. System safety is described as an appropriate approach to evaluating and designing robot safety systems. Then, qualitative and quantitative system safety techniques are introduced. Energy barrier analysis (a qualitative model) is selected and applied to a general human-robot system. Finally, as a result of this application, specific solutions and recommendations are discussed.
