Abstract

A sample of 10 female adolescent sex offenders, aged between 11 and 18 years, is studied. They constitute about one-sixth of all young women who were registered at the prosecutor's office in the Netherlands during the past 10 years. Information was gathered from psychological screenings carried out in relation to the sex offence. Most young women in the sample had committed their offence(s) with one or more co-offenders. Victims were boys and girls. In most cases considerable force had been used. Many of the sample had been abused sexually and had experienced neglect. Most female adolescent sex offenders scored low on measures of low self-esteem and high on neuroticism.
