Abstract

The author has served as an expert witness in four baseball-injury lawsuits: they all involved a person getting hit in the head with a baseball. In each of these, he made a computer simulation of the ball's trajectory. Then he discussed the implications of these simulations with the lawyers. Here are some of the questions that he will try to answer. How do expert witnesses set their fees? What should be in the expert witness report? How is an expert witness different from a regular witness? What unexpected events might an expert witness encounter? Are there ethical complications?
