Abstract

A 1977 study of rape in New Zealand indicated that only about 20% of all rapes are reported to police. The Royal Commission on Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion which rejected rape as a ground for legal abortion did so after inadequate consideration of the issue. The Commission Report suggests postrape insertion of an IUD or administration of a morning-after pill within 72 hours of the incident. These suggestions are inadequate.
