Abstract

Blood samples with ethanol added in the laboratory and stored in "approved" containers, as defined in Paragraph 254 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (1), namely "VACUTAINER® XF 947" were analyzed by a gas chromatography (GC) method using an internal standard over a period of 31 weeks. Additional blood samples of actual forensic cases received and stored in the laboratory for at least one year were also analyzed prior to destruction, and results compared with the analysis of the first sample. Ail samples exhibited a decline in ethanol concentration.
