Abstract

The issues of medical causation of death and criminal assault, and the associated literature are reviewed. In particular the problems of determination of cause of death in cases of nonphysical criminal assault are discussed. Five criteria are provided to assist with establishing a clear chain of causation in such cases where death following criminal assault may apppear to have been the result of a natural disease process.
