Abstract

The cannabinoid content of a stand of cannabis found growing in central Cape Breton is reported. The value of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, 3.03% compares favourably with values quoted for plants originating from areas known for their high potency. The possible use of tetrahydrocannabinolic acid as an indicator of age is discussed and the effect of packaging shown to bear a drastic effect on the rate of decarboxylation. Finally, the possibility of relating a sample of Cannabis to a country of origin and to other samples as to source is discussed. ::: Nous avons étudié la teneur en cannabinoïdes de plantes de Cannabis cultivées dans le centre de l'Ile-du-Cap-Breton. La teneur en Δ9-tétrahydrocannabinol est de 3.03%, une valeur qui se compare avantageusement avec celle mesurée chez des plantes originaires de régions reconnues pour leur forte concentration en éléments actifs. Nous avons aussi étudié la possibilité d'utiliser la teneur en l'acide tétrahydrocannabinolique pour évaluer l'âge de la plante; nous avons fait une étude de différents types d'emballage sur le taux de décarboxylation. Enfin, nous discutons la possibilité de corréler un échantillon de Cannabis à son pays d'origine et à sa provenance parmi d'autres échantillons.
