Abstract

Identifying those children and adolescents with lithium-responsive behavior disorders is often difficult. Work done in those areas is reviewed with consideration given to diagnostic issues, outcome studies, and the immediate or long-term risks of lithium use in this younger age group. A balance should be struck between potential side effects and the need for proper treatment of potentially devastating illness.
