Abstract

Hogan's framework for the study of behavior can be used as a guide to the study of personality, considered here as interindividual differences in typical behavioral tendency. For any given dimension of personality variation, one can examine its development, its causal biological bases, its genetic and environmental origins, and its function and evolutionary history. These questions are discussed after a brief introduction to personality assessment and structure, and are followed by a brief review of personality research on non-human animals.
