Abstract

To reduce pedestrian conflicts and avoid traffic accidents, the pedestrian conflict characteristics and its influence factors are studied based on the survey data at signalized intersections. At the peak hour, by using the method of video-based observations to collect the conflict data between pedestrians and vehicles, the form, causes and types of the pedestrian conflicts are analyzed. The indicators of traffic conflict are collected, and the fuzzy C-means clustering method is used to obtain the severity and risk of different types of traffic conflicts. In addition, the correlation between violation rate and pedestrian conflicts and the correlation between observing behavior and pedestrian conflicts are also studied. It is found that there is a positive linear relationship between violation rate and pedestrian conflicts, and the pedestrian's observing behavior can effectively avoid the occurrence of traffic conflicts.
