Abstract

This article summarizes the findings from an analysis of domestic abuse experienced by low income, Latina farm workers in a nine-state area. Using logistic regression analysis, we analyzed factors that predict victimization of these women. Among the 820 study participants, 17% reported that during the past year, they had been physically or sexually abused by a husband, boyfriend, family member, or companion. Two variables were statistically significant predictors of intimate victimization. Respondents whose partners used drugs and/or alcohol had a significantly higher probability of being victimized than respondents whose partners abstained from drug and/or alcohol use. Pregnant respondents were significantly less likely to be abused than respondents who were not pregnant.
