Abstract

A previously developed and validated model of truck blockage of the line of signt of traffic signals was used to determine the extent of expected blockage as a function of signal location, traffic volume, and composition of approaching traffic. Both parametric analysis and simulation studies covered a wide range of speed, volume, and truck percentage conditions for 10 common two-head signal configurations as well as for 1 single-head configuration. Both horizontal and vertical locations of the individual signal heads were found to have an effect on expected blockage. Increasing volume and increasing truck percentage result in an increase in expected blockage.
