Abstract

Accident analyses were conducted for 79 construction projects in seven states.

RESULTS indicate an overall increase in the accident rate of 6.8 percent. Examination of accident rate differentials reveals that 31 percent of the projects experienced decreased accident rates during construction and that 24 percent of the projects experienced rate increases of 50 percent or more. Case study analyses of three projects with rate increases of 40 percent or more indicate that construction-related accidents were responsible for the accident rate increases.
