Abstract

Research is summarized and reviewed that has been conducted on the influence of sunglasses on night driving visibility.

RESULTS of these various researches indicate that: (1) exposure to sunlight reduces visual performance during the evening, (2) this reduction can be expressed as a fraction of the measured illuminations provided by artificial light, headlights for example, and (3) the effects can be prevented by the use of adequate sunglasses during the day. It is concluded that sunglasses are useful in accident prevention.
