Abstract

A program was initiated for marking pavement edges on all two-lane rural state highways. Before and after studies on all accidents reported were investigated.

RESULTS were gratifying. For example, there was a 37% reduction in fatalities and injuries attributable to edge marking, a reduction in night accidents and fewer accidents at intersections, alleys, and driveways.
