Abstract

In this paper, the analysis of accident rates in Bangalore city has been taken up as a case study. Using the accident records maintained by the traffic police department, the accident rates in Bangalore city based on different factors such as population, number of vehicles, vehicle ownership, mobility and vehicle movements have been worked out. The accident data has been analysed and various correlations have been developed for predicting the fatal accidents due to future increase in the number of vehicles and human population, and for checking the relative safety of different road stretches.
