Abstract

The present study examined the relationship between physical and psychological well-being, personality characteristics and demographic variables related to motherhood, work and marital status in a sample of 3,723 Dutch women. Analysis revealed several interesting relationships. First, whereas neuroticism was negatively related to both physical and psychological well-being, extraversion was positively related to well-being. Second, a clear positive relationship emerged between work participation and both types of well-being.

RESULTS are discussed in terms of the vulnerability stress model.
