Abstract

MMPI scores and demographic factors were examined for differences between female adult felons who had escaped (N = 71) from incarceration and those who had not escaped (N = 97). Escapees were significantly younger, were more often imprisoned as juveniles, had lower MMPI L scores, but scored significantly higher on MMPI scales F, Pd, Pt, Sc, and Ma than non-escapees. An MMPI predictor model comprised of L, D, and Sc scores maximally accounted for 19% of the escape variance and was stable on cross-validation. Demographic factors were less useful and less stable escape predictors than MMPI variables.
