Abstract

This paper describes two educational innovations designed to enhance public education for persons of all ages while at the same time encouraging the development of scientific traditions within the community. It is suggested that, if implemented, these innovations might lead to the participation of an informed citizenry in the process of social problem-solving and thus to more effective social action at the local level.
