Abstract

Children who commit aggressive and violent acts are seen more frequently in public school and general education classrooms. Despite the increasing numbers of these students in schools, educators report that they do not have the necessary skills to work with them. In this article we provide teachers with basic information needed to prevent and manage aggressive children and youth. Specifically, we provide information regarding stages of crises, effective strategies for each stage, and prevention strategies designed specifically for public school classrooms. In addition, policies and procedures to address the needs of students who are aggressive and violent are delineated.
